My name is Sharon Kemp

Founder & Creative Heart of Soul Khemistry

STORYTELLER. CREATIVE ARTS THERAPIST. SINGER & MAKER

I've always been a creative soul. Music, storytelling, performing and making beautiful things have been woven through my life for as long as I can remember. Creativity is where I feel most at home, and sharing it with others has always brought me enormous joy.

My professional journey began in nursing, where I spent 25 years caring for others, including working as a paediatric nurse. Alongside my nursing career, I continued to follow my love of music as a professional singer, performer and vocal coach.

Over the years, my fascination with the healing and transformative nature of creativity led me to study Creative Arts Therapy, meditation and mindfulness. But it was my growing love for the imaginative world of young children that eventually brought all these threads together.

Working as an educator in a Steiner Kindergarten deepened my appreciation for the beauty, rhythm and wonder of early childhood. I went on to study early childhood puppetry with Juniper Tree Puppets in the United States and therapeutic storytelling with renowned Australian storyteller and author Susan Perrow.

These experiences have been wonderful influences on my work, alongside a lifelong love of music, nature, art and the magic of a good story.

I'm a maker at heart. I love dreaming up stories, writing original songs, creating puppets and crafting the little worlds that bring them to life. Many of the resources I use in my programs are made by my own hands, often with a great deal of love, imagination and the occasional late night!

Today, I feel incredibly fortunate to spend my days sharing these creations with young children. There is something quite extraordinary about watching a child's face light up as a story unfolds, hearing their voices join in song, or seeing their imagination take flight.

I also love sharing what I've learnt with educators, encouraging them to find their own creativity and delight in the small, meaningful moments of everyday life with children.

Soul Khemistry has brought together so many of the things I love and value. It is a beautiful meeting place for my experience in caring for others, my life in the arts and my deep affection for childhood.

And after all these years, I still believe that some of the most important things we can offer a child are wonderfully simple: our time, our presence, our imagination and our hearts.​​
